Divergent paths....

X: We are finally here.....the end of our journey!
Y: Where??....I don't see the end.

X: We are here...the place we have been searching for, cant you see it?
Y What are you talking about?...All I see in front of me are ruins and a scorched road. The same things we have passed and have seen since we started this journey.

X: What? Are you telling me you cant see the glistening towers and marble road. Can you not see the trees in bloom and the birds singing...can you not see the splendor and wonder in front of you?
Y: No! I do not see your hallucination!..... Why are you lying?..... Has the journey finally taken its toll on you?
Those towers are decrepit and forgotten, the trees are dead and the smell of the birds corpses are nauseating. I only see what has plagued us...Our Dream! Come lets continue walking

X: But? But? This cant be how cant you see this? Are my eyes deceiving me? or are yours?
Y: No Friend my eyes see clearly in this darkness. Madness has not taken me yet, she will have to try harder to capture my mind. I see the light but it is not here it is further.....much further.

X: Walk with me a little further just to the gates and you shall see. Your eyes are so use to the darkness that you cannot embrace what is right in front of you. Come my friend!

(They walk a little further)

X: Ah! now I am sure you can see it. Its all our dreams realized we are finally here. Our patience has paid off
Y: No Friend. I cant see what you seem to believe is true and real. To me its a graveyard and to you it is a garden in bloom. It can only be one answer to this riddle

X: Does this mean........
Y: Yes it does my friend. Your journey is at an end. It seems our visions of happiness were destined to happen at different times and places.

(They stare at each other for a moment. One basking in the light of his paradise, the other shrouded in darkness and uncertainty)

Y: I didn't think it would come to this my friend.

(X looks at the glistening towers, looking directly into his future )

X: Will you continue alone?.....I could come with you......

(X turns to look at Y only to be faced with the darkness. Y has gone. With his back facing X, Y walks into the darkness, becoming smaller and smaller as he heads for the horizon.)

Y: (Shouts out) Goodbye my friend...... Our paths will cross one day, but this is not that day..... this is something I must do on my own.

It happens...when you pass Matric...and thereafter it happens on a more frequent basis...we find ourselves, and know that some raods must be walked alone...

that's a bit sad singleguy...can't i find new friends on the new road? why is it that it must be walked alone? who came up with that rule? yes, there are things you have to do on your own, everyone has his/her own journey, etc, but why must it always be done alone! there are loads of people who can join you...alcoholics and drug addicts get to sober up with others on their journies, why can't the rest of us? i hope i make sennse...:)

I agree with single guy on this point i think some roads have to be walked alone. And as you grow older it happens more often.

Even drug addicts and alcoholics they may be in a group talking about there problems but the sobering up, suffering from withdrawls and the decision to help themselves is a journey they can only do on there own.

a touch of melancholy here...intriguing post. we must face certain trials on our own. but walking a long and narrow path as a single person is a trial on its own. not to be scoffed at

I loved this:)

Listen this is very good. I will pay you Mr. you have an excellent knack for doing a play (seriously! even if you don't know it). Help me convert the story and I'll pay you.:) It's my biggest worry right now.

Think about it.

Once again - I loved this piece - sad yet optimistic.

joe, u can find new friends along the journey, but they too will only be around for a little while.. Then either you or they will disappear. Everyone has things they need to do alone. I just wonder if that "dream", that utopia is real. Somehow i cant picture it.

K-man,ur posts have a knack for talking directly to me. A few good friends are x, and i'm y, and i find this path far more exciting. Yes,it's lonely at times, but the promise it holds is far more comforting

We come into this world alone and we leave it the same way.

We are all unique. Therefore even our seemingly similar experiences in life are as well. Even if people walk with us, they cannot walk exactly LIKE us....

So maybe the truth of the matter is all roads are actually travelled alone and everything else is just the flowers on the side of the road.

hmmm...

I think the ending was a bit predictable, but otherwise this post reminds me of a song called This Time by The Smashing Pumpkins.

It's all a lie, if we partially integrate X and Y, we can bring them back together... hahahaha
