Words of Wisdom....

Abu Hurairah Radhi Allahu Anhu narrates that Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said : "A man is on the religion of his friend. Therefore, be careful who you befriend." (Tirmidhi, Abu Dawood)

Commentary :

Companionship and environment have an effect upon a person. A person who remains in an itr shop for a while will come out with a sweet smell emitting from his body and clothes. Similarly a person sitting close to fire will be affected with the smoke. Similarly, friends encourage each other towards a similar path. Good company encourages one to do good and evil company encourages evil. It is advisable to be in the company of the pious so that one is encouraged towards good actions

A very good friend of mine sent this to me in an email and I think is a fundamental truth. Its been on my mind for awhile now so I thought I would share it with the rest of you. Its akin to the English saying "Birds of a feather flock together" but I think its more powerful especially with the commentary. A person is judged by the friends they keep, no matter how different you may be from your friends, if they do something that is seen as unbecoming then that stigma is placed on you. It doesn't matter whether its a rumor, people always will use the adage "Where there is smoke there is fire" and always think the worse. Its harsh but one has to be careful with the company one keeps and should know exactly who are friends and who are the "users".

I feel this can be used or adapted to include the person who you choose to spend the rest of your life with. Love only takes you so far, you have to choose a person who will not just give up at the first sign of trouble, someone who will stick through the tough times and someone who will help you grow and reach your full potential. Of course love is important but what about compatibility. (yes r I'm leaning towards compatibility) Someone that will learn to love your little idiosyncrasy's that are not apparent at first. Now this is turning into a tangent, and deserves a blog post on its own.

to an extent i agree. but then people's opinions are often easily swayed. i think it is a reference to opening your eyes in the company you keep and the trouble you might find yourself in.

but when you get married i think you should marry your own class, someone with the capacity to understand your best and worst. someone who wont run for the hills or listen to hearsay or press the eject button. someone who will complement you and who you'll complement.

but it is true, hang around with retards, and you start to behave live one, because you think it's normal.

Welcome back K-man, I see you return in the manner that you left off.

'You can't choose your family but you can choose friends'. Can you really choose 'friends' though? Like at work, people assume you're their friend. Or at school/campus, you have friends you wouldnt associate with normally, but due to the need for companionship, they are your friends through circumstance.

Also if you have strong willpower, you won't be influenced by your friends actions.

Infi: You never know lol

The Organ harvester: I agree with you man, but sometimes we open our eyes too late and by then we screwed. And marrying your own class, thats spot on!

r: Lol myself and infi always contradict each other

Waseem: Willpower is essential and is something that can defeat the ugly monster know as peer pressure in school and even in the work place. I think that you should make it clear in your mind who are your friends and who are your acquaintances. thats essential.

The sunnah is there to guide us, but to our disadvantage,we sometimes choose not to follow. I've always had good friends, alham, who are good people. But after being with ppl who influenced me beneficially, i now only seek out, and prefer to spend time with, those whose company is good for my iman. I do have non-muslim friends, who inspire me too. Marriage-without a doubt someone who'll always inspire you to be better, a person who'll grow with you. Welcome back

K-Man: im hurt that you could even entertain that possibility... tsk tsk tsk... lol, hahaha, NOT!!!!

r: I gotta agree with my home boy here, we perpetually disagree on nearly everything, weird how we are such good friends though... Guess thats life...

Lestat: You know it!!!! Evil plans come by the dozen from me, but this time its far far far far far from EVIL, totally on the opposite end of the spectrum, so it will have to be the latter of your questions :)

Sorry dude, i hadta reply :)

BB_aisha: I got to agree with you. We somehow get blinded and dont choose to use the sunnah to guide us. I also have non muslim friends who are a good influence and who will never impose their ways on me. Sometimes we muslims can learn a thing or to about decency from non muslims.

Queen: Infi is always cooking up things.

Infi: GET A BLOG LOL
